 Gauguin & Polynesia: An Elusive Paradise

Seattle Art Museum presents the only United States stop for Gauguin & Polynesia: An Elusive Paradise, a landmark show highlighting the complex relationship between Paul Gauguin's work and the art and culture of Polynesia. The exhibition, on view at SAM Downtown February 9 through April 29, 2012, includes about 60 of Gauguin's brilliantly hued paintings, sculptures and works on paper, which are displayed alongside 60 major examples of Polynesian sculpture that fueled his search for the exotic. Organized by the Art Centre Basel, the show is comprised of works on loan from some of the world's most prestigious museums and private collections.

This application includes interviews with SAM curators and Gauguin and Polynesian art historian scholars, cultural insights and music from a Tahitian drumming company, as well as images of selected artworks from the exhibition.

The Israel Museum, the largest cultural institution in Israel, houses encyclopedic
collections of works dating from prehistory to the present day in Archaeology, the Fine Arts, and Jewish Art and Life. Since opening in 1965, the Museum has built a collection of nearly 500,000 objects representing the full scope of
artistic creativity and world material culture.

Associates of New York and Efrat-Kowalsky Architects of Tel Aviv is designed to enhance visitor experience of the Museum’s unique collections, architecture, and setting.

Welcome to Goat Island, part of Sydney Harbour National Park. The Island combines a spectacular location in Sydney harbour with a rich history. This App lets you explore Aboriginal attachment to land, the dangerous business of storing bulk gunpowder, the harsh life of convicts in the 1830’s and the striking coincidence of a TV drama about contemporary water police filmed alongside one of the Colony’s first Water Police Stations.

There are 21 stops on this self-guided tour. A GPS enabled map lets you navigate between each point of interest and explore the island at your leisure.

The island has paved walking tracks for most of the tour, however walking shoes are recommended. We also recommend you bring a hat, sunscreen and water. If you would like to stay for a picnic bring your own food and a blanket and enjoy some of Sydney’s most spectacular views.

The app includes a bonus children’s version for ages 8-12 as a separate download.

This self-guided tour explores the convict built gunpowder storage precinct, the stories of the islands most notorious convicts, the water police station, the grand Harbour Master’s residence as well as what the harbour was like before the British arrived.

This tour is designed for kids aged 5-12, uses simplified language and is narrated by a kid. There are 21 stops on the tour. Allow about 1.5 hours for the tour.
