Die App gibt in akustischer, visueller und textlicher Ebene einen Überblick über eine besondere Instrumentensammlung am Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg. Die Sammlung umfasst rund 250 Musikinstrumente die technisch außergewöhnlich und in ihrer Konstruktion besonders innovativ sind. Den Hauptbestandteil der Sammlung bilden Streich- und Holzblasinstrumente des 19. und 20. Jahrhunderts. Darunter befinden sich die für frühe Tonaufnahmen von dem Ingenieur Johann Matthias Augustus Stroh entwickelten „Strohgeigen“ – Streichinstrumente mit einem schallverstärkenden Metalltrichter. Die Sammlung enthält außerdem verschiedene Violinen in außergewöhnlichen Korpusformen, wie sie von experimentellen Geigenbauern im 19. und 20. Jahrhundert entworfen wurden. Dazu zählt etwa eine von dem französischen Geigenbauer François Chanot entworfene Violine mit gitarrenähnlichem Korpus. Weitere Objekte der Sammlung sind seltene Tanzmeister- oder Taschengeigen (Pochettes) und verschiedene Stumme Geigen sowie Miniaturinstrumente. Von besonderem historischen Wert sind 24 Französische und Englische Flageoletts, darunter vier besonders bemerkenswerte Doppelflageoletts der Londoner Werkstatt von William Bainbridge. Die Sammlung umfasst auch einige technisch und historisch interessante „Zubehörteile“ wie ein patentierter Stimmstock, ein verstellbarer Saitenhalter, Stimmgabeln und Metronome. Gemeinsam mit der Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg wurden diese historischen Instrumente noch einmal zum Klingen gebracht.

Celebrated for its exceptional breadth, depth, and quality, the Barnes Foundation's art collection includes works by some of the greatest European and American masters of impressionism, post-impressionism, and early modern art, as well as African sculpture, Pennsylvania German decorative arts, Native American textiles, metalwork, and more.

Founder Albert C. Barnes arranged and rearranged his collections in “ensembles,” distinctive wall compositions organized according to formal principles of light, line, color, and space, rather than by chronology, nationality, style, or genre. The ensembles changed as Barnes made acquisitions and new aesthetic connections between the works. Integrating art and craft, and objects from across cultures and periods, Barnes sought to demonstrate the continuity of artistic traditions and the universalism of human expression.

This application explores individual works as well as the ensembles and includes interviews with curators and scholars at the Barnes Foundation and elsewhere. A family tour encourages children and their families to interact by considering the ways in which the objects in the ensembles relate to one another; the role of play or leisure in various objects; and the interaction of music and visual art.

500 Jahre „Sixtinische Madonna“ bedeutet spannende Geschichten, geprägt von geheimen Verhandlungen und glanzvoller Präsentation, Vergessenheit und internationalem Ruhm, künstlerischen Entdeckungen und abgründigem Kitsch.
Das Herz der Ausstellung bildet ein hochkarätiges Ensemble an Werken Raffaels und seiner Zeit um die „Sixtinische Madonna“, Leihgaben aus den bedeutendsten Museen Europas. Eine eigene Sektion ist dem spektakulären Ankauf des Gemäldes durch August III. 1752/54 gewidmet. Erst hier in Dresden wurde die „Sixtinische Madonna“ dann wirklich entdeckt. Ihr langer Weg zum Ruhm ist ein spannendes Stück Kulturgeschichte und umfasst Kunst, Literatur, Philosophie, Kunsthandwerk, Musik und Design. Und natürlich wird auch die Karriere der beiden Engelchen erzählt, die sie seit 200 Jahren durch alle Höhen und Tiefen des guten Geschmacks führt.

Edouard Vuillard: A Painter and His Muses, 1890-1940

During Edouard Vuillard's lifetime, Paris was the capital of the international avant-garde, the laboratory of new styles in art, music, poetry, and prose. Vuillard was at the heart of this creative ferment. In these decades, vanguard artists were supported by collectors, gallerists, publishers, and theater impresarios who encouraged modernist cultural experiments. Vuillard had unusually close and sustained relationships with his patrons; some became intimate and lifelong friends. In this glittering cultural milieu he became romantically involved with two fascinating women, Misia Natanson and Lucy Hessel—his patrons and muses.

Including more than 50 paintings–a quarter of which have never been exhibited publicly in America before–the exhibition explores the crucial role played by the patrons, dealers and supporters who comprised Vuillard’s circle and traces the entire arc of Vuillard’s career, in which he pursued painterly experimentation in color, media, and ambience, especially in portraiture. Experimental, yet deeply committed to the old masters throughout his life, Vuillard maintained a continual tension in his work between tradition and modernism.

This application includes audio that features interviews with the exhibition curator and Marc Salz, the son of Vuillard’s American art dealer, Madame Claude Dalsace who was portrayed by Vuillard, and the scholars Dr. Richard Brettell, Dr. Elizabeth Easton, and Dr. Gloria Groom. Selected images of major works in the exhibition are also included.
