Custom-tailored content and hardware bring each piece in the collection to life

Kfar Saba, Israel and Kyoto, Japan – December 4, 2014 – The Kyoto National Museum, one of Japan’s four national museums, inked a three-year agreement with Acoustiguide, the leading audio and multimedia interpretation provider. Acoustiguide Japan coordinated all preparation and installation.

Acoustiguide is providing the museum with hundreds of its Opus multimedia guiding devices and customized content in Japanese, English, Korean, and Chinese. Opus, a proprietary hardware system, allows visitors to access content on demand at 300 of the museum’s displays in any order.

Acoustiguide is managing the staff handling the onsite service, as well. The team reports that many more visitors are requesting the devices than originally forecast.

The Kyoto National Museum was recently redesigned by noted architect Yoshio Taniguchi to house its permanent exhibit. This was an especially significant project for Acoustiguide because most museums in Japan offer audio guiding services for special exhibitions only, not their permanent collections. The grand opening was held in September.

Acoustiguide’s multimedia Opus system is a lightweight, robust screen-based guiding system custom branded for the museum and comes with multiple unit wireless charging cabinets to ensure devices are always available. Acoustiguide content focuses on giving the visitor the complete story about each piece, both in broad strokes and great detail.

“This was a very important project for us. We have a solid reputation, and we’re gaining increasing traction in the Asian market in general,” said Kaori Kurata, Managing Director, Acoustiguide Japan. “Bringing this project to fruition not only provides the highest-possible experiences to the visitors at the Kyoto National Museum but is also an important step forward toward expanding our presence in the region.”
