Acoustiguide Partners with the New-York Historical Society to Reveal the Identity of the Man on the $10 Bill

(New York-) September 9, 2004, the New-York Historical Society partnered with Acoustiguide to develop Adult and Family audio tours for Alexander Hamilton: The Man Who Made Modern America, the most ambitious show ever staged for the nation’s first Secretary of the Treasury.

In true democratic fashion, the Museum offers each visitor an audio tour with the price of admission. both Both the Adult and Family tours contextualize the rare historical objects on display, which include portraits, handwritten correspondence, and other artifacts. Richard Brookhiser, author of Alexander Hamilton, American and curator of the exhibition, narrates the Adult Tour.

Adult Audio Tour

Brookhiser’s narration is complemented by actors reading excerpts from primary sources by notables like Thomas Jefferson, George Washington and Hamilton’s wife, Elizabeth Schuyler.   In one stop, visitors hear a passage from the heartrending letter composed a week before the famous duel:  “This letter, my very dear Eliza, will not be delivered to you, unless I shall first have terminated my earthly career….” The tour is enhanced by period music selected and performed by music scholars David and Ginger Hildebrand.

Family Audio Tour

Acoustiguide created a quirky character, Tommy Tabloid, to lead children and their companions through the exhibit. Tabloid is a nosy roving reporter "digging the dirt" on the man whose face he knows only from the ten dollar bill. Much more than a history lesson, the tour is a real drama, featuring a host of characters, including Hamilton’s wife and Private Hicks, who served under Alexander Hamilton during the American Revolution. Period music and many sound effects help keep kids engaged and entertained while they’re learning.
