(London) - This informative and entertaining Acoustiguide audio tour offers visitors unique insight into Matisse Picasso, the long-awaited exhibition that brings together masterpieces by the two giants of modern art. The audio tour allows visitors to discover more about the two artists' fascinating and intricate relationship, by comparing and contrasting carefully selected works.
Curator Lizzie Cowling carefully selected works by both artists featured on the 40-minute audio program. The tour's narrator is British singer and actress Jane Birkin, much loved both here and in France, who achieved notoriety in the 1960s with former husband Serge Gainsbourg.
Acoustiguide and Tate are grateful to two special contributors who agreed to be interviewed for the audio tour. They are biographer, Hilary Spurling, and art historian, Kirk Varnedoe from Princeton University, formerly the curator of painting and sculpture at the Museum of Modern Art, New York. Hilary Spurling offers interpretation and analysis of a selection of Matisse's works in the show as well as contextual and biographical information on the artist. Kirk Varnedoe provides interesting insights into Picasso's life and works.
The exhibition runs from May 11 to August 18, 2002, and visitors can rent the audio guide for £3.50 (£3.00 concessions) at the Acoustiguide desk. For group bookings of the audio tour, please contact the Acoustiguide office in London at 020 7269 6444, weekdays between 9.30 am and 5.30 pm. For more information about Tate, visit www.tate.org.uk.
