UK Design Council Award for the Acoustiguide Wand

Recognized for Innovation in Museum Interpretation

Read the innovation story on the UK Design Council web site.

This fall the Acoustiguide 2000 Series Wand won a prestigious Innovation Story Award from the United Kingdom Design Council. As an Innovation Story, the Wand will be promoted worldwide and on the web by the Design Council as an example of the best in current design. Stylish, easy to use, and accessible to all - the Wand provides high-quality interpretation to museum visitors around the world - from Tate Modern in London to the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

The Acoustiguide 2000 Wand was designed jointly by Acoustiguide and ION design, in consultation with museum professionals, the general public, and disability advisory groups. The challenge was to design a piece of technology for all age groups, that could meet the current and future needs of museum visitors. This is the Wand's second prestigious design award this year - following an honorable mention in I.D. Magazine's 2001 Annual Design Review.

The Design Council is the UK's top design organization, funded by the government to inspire and enable people and organizations to make the best use of design. Other award-winners this year included the British Airways London Eye.

In addition to these design awards, Acoustiguide's creative content for audio tours has been honored by independent professional groups, including the National Association for Interpretation and the International Association of Business Communicators.
