The Henry Moore Foundation, UK

Jun 09 2011

Acoustiguide installed Opus at the Henry Moore Foundation in March this year, their staff and visitors are so pleased with the new commentary and guides, that they asked if they could write a feature for us. The below gives a lovely insight into how the Foundation are using Opus and also the feedback they have had from staff and visitors. So, we open the floor to the Henry Moore Foundation team…

Visitors to the award-winning Henry Moore Foundation in Hertfordshire can now enjoy a personalised tour of the artist's studios and gardens with Acoustiguide. The Foundation, which has the largest collection of Moore's work in the world, chose Acoustiguide Opus Click™ as their first ever multimedia guide to the life and work of British sculptor Henry Moore.
The Acoustiguide, which is included in the entry price to Moore's former home at Perry Green, is narrated by broadcaster Joan Bakewell, who once interviewed Henry Moore on the estate, and features personal contributions from Moore's daughter Mary and members of staff at the Foundation. Visitors can also view exclusive archive material about Moore on-screen.

Foundation Director Richard Calvocoressi said: 'The Acoustiguide has added an important dimension to our visitor experience here at Perry Green. We are dedicated to helping people enjoy and understand Moore's work, and this is an important part of that effort. First-hand accounts like Mary's are particularly valuable.'

Jan Gold, Visitor Centre Manager, said: "The guides are really good, we've had a very positive response because they're informative and have so much extra on them. People tell me they are helpful because curatorial staff give extra insights and 'behind-the-scenes' snippets."

Visitors said:
"I loved listening to Mary Moore talk about growing up here – it really brought the place to life and took me back to when Henry Moore was working here." Megan, Hertfordshire
'This is a very peaceful place and with the guide I felt like I was carried to another time.' Sophie, Cambridgeshire
"The new audio-guide is fabulous – it was very flexible and I was able to get the information I wanted easily" David, Ayrshire

The Henry Moore Foundation is open to visitors from 1 April – 30 October and includes Moore's former home, Hoglands, and his studios on the estate. Extensive gardens display 25 monumental sculptures and the gallery shows world-class exhibitions relating to Moore's work.

The Henry Moore Foundation was founded by Henry Moore in 1977 to encourage appreciation of the visual arts, especially sculpture. The Foundation is a charity and its responsibilities are threefold: preserving Moore's legacy at his Hertfordshire home and in exhibitions worldwide; running an exhibitions and research programme at the Henry Moore Institute in Leeds; and awarding grants to arts organisations in the UK and abroad, as one of the UK's leading arts charities.
